Teeth Implants Dentist in Toronto - Ontario

Implants are solid fixtures placed under the gum, in the jawbone to replace the roots of the lost teeth. They are made of titanium, a highly biocompatible material.

The implants can support a single crown, bridge or denture depending on the number of natural teeth being replaced. The number of implants placed does not have to match the number of natural teeth lost. In many instances the number of implants is less than the total of lost teeth, but the final outcome in function and esthetics is that of a totally natural dentition.

How long does it take to get implants?

The first step is the implant the placement. It can be done on an outpatient basis under local anesthetic. Some patients may require additional sedation. Post operative analgesic medications are provided and the recovery time is of a few days to a week similar to a tooth extraction.

The next step is the implant restoration, four to six month after the surgery. This is when a porcelain tooth, bridge or denture is placed over the implant(s), to recreate the natural smile.

Implants dramatically improve the quality of life for patients. The advantages are numerous. By placing an implant, filing down of adjacent healthy teeth can be avoided. For denture wearers, implant supported dentures eliminate discomfort and enable the patient to eat a normal diet. Implants also preserve healthy bone around them, bone that might be lost after extractions of the teeth.
